Apply your technical expertise to complex machinery failures in a specialist engineering role
Sedgwick is a global leader in insurance loss adjusting, helping insurers and businesses understand and resolve complex machinery and equipment insurance claims. This role sits within our Major & Complex Loss (MCL) engineering team, meaning exposure to technically challenging plant failures across NZ.
We are seeking technically strong engineers, ideally with HVAC or refrigeration experience, but are open minded to candidates from a range of technical backgrounds who are looking to apply their expertise in a specialist engineering role offering long‑term career opportunities.
No insurance experience is necessary as full training, structured mentoring, and company funded insurance qualifications are provided.
This role is ideally based in our Newmarket office, but we're also open to strong applicants based elsewhere in New Zealand.
Attending site inspections to investigate machinery or plant failures
Assessing cause, damage, and evaluating repair options
Preparing technical reports in clear, plain English
Helping insurers and businesses resolve complex engineering claims
Managing your own portfolio of technical claims, delivering excellent customer service
Calculating, negotiating, and delivering settlement outcomes
Building strong relationships with insurers, brokers, and contractors
Continuing your development through structured training

What You'll Bring
Mechanical and/or electrical engineering qualification or trade qualification
Strong hands‑on experience in HVAC, refrigeration, heat pumps, or industrial plant
Excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic ability
A curious, analytical mindset suited to investigating technical losses
Professional, confident communication skills, including conflict resolution
Strong written English and numeracy for reports and calculations
A genuine interest in continued learning and professional development, including company‑funded qualifications
Integrity, reliability, and the ability to work independently
The right to work and reside in New Zealand (Sedgwick is an Accredited Employer and can support eligible visa applications)
