Description
SUMMARY: An associate attorney admitted to practice in the state that performs substantive legal functions in client matters; maintains positive contact with clients and observes confidentiality in client matters; and may participate in the Firm’s marketing efforts and client development. An Associate may be assigned to work independently or under the direct supervision of other attorney(s) employed within the firm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain active membership in the state bar and complete all required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements annually.
- Adhere to the Rules of Professional Conduct of the applicable state bar and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) (if applicable), while complying with the firm’s professional liability insurer’s requirements.
- Review and analyze newly assigned and existing matters, ensuring effective legal representation from initiation to conclusion.
- Draft, review, and finalize legal documents in accordance with firm procedures.
- Conduct thorough legal research using all available resources, including legal databases and libraries.
- Provide well-founded legal opinions and strategic counsel to clients.
- Conduct negotiations, where appropriate, to effectively resolve client matters.
- Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with clients regarding case status and legal strategies.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the DC and/or VA state bar in good standing.
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Billable Hours:
- This position offers a total of 1,900 billable hours, which may be adjusted on a case-by-case basis depending on experience and education.
